US Aims to Bring NATO Forces to the Region via EU Mission, Says Zakharova
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commented on the joining of a Canadian representative to the EU observers in Armenia, stating that the US wants to bring NATO forces to the South Caucasus through the EU mission, as reported by Sputnik.
"It should be noted the complete ineffectiveness of the EU presence in terms of preventing incidents. We are increasingly convinced that there is a lack of positive steps from the EU in the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan," said Zakharova.
According to her, EU representatives are engaged in various kinds of provocations, espionage activities, and propaganda. She noted that it is not surprising that this trend generates a legitimate rejection among the countries of the region, which are unanimous that any emerging issues in the South Caucasus should be resolved internally for the benefit of all countries present here, without external destructive interference.
"As we understand, the question of Ottawa's joining the EU mission has already shifted to a practical level. Recently, a so-called expert arrived from Canada to Armenia. It is unclear what the additional value of such a decision is and how important it is for Armenians. Let them explain it themselves," Zakharova said.
According to Zakharova, this probably indicates that the EU, as a junior partner of the US, is being used by Washington to 'pull NATO forces into the region.' "It is obvious that those across the Atlantic not only want to expand their global situation control capabilities but also to keep an eye on their European allies," the Russian Foreign Ministry representative declared.
