VIDEO: 17th Century Historical Former Stock Exchange Building in Copenhagen on Fire
A strong fire broke out today at the historic former stock exchange building from the 17th century in Copenhagen, which was under renovation. The Børsen building was commissioned by King Christian IV and constructed between 1619 and 1640.
The structure is located in the city center, adjacent to the Danish Parliament and Christiansborg Palace. Until the 1970s, it operated as a stock exchange, and now it serves as the headquarters of the Danish Chamber of Commerce, reports BBC.
Photos from the scene show huge plumes of black smoke billowing out of the building. Police have announced that part of the city center has been closed off as efforts to extinguish the fire are underway.
At the time of the fire, renovation work was being carried out in the building. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
