Netherlands to Close Its Embassy in Tehran

The authorities of the Netherlands have decided to close their embassy in the Iranian capital, Tehran. This information is reported on the website of the Kingdom's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On Sunday, the Dutch embassy in Tehran and its consulate in Erbil will be closed to visitors. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made this decision in response to the rising tensions between Iran and Israel. The ministry has clarified that a decision will be made on Sunday regarding whether the embassy and consular sections will reopen on Monday.

Visitors with scheduled meetings at the embassy have been informed about the closure. The ministry emphasized that diplomatic missions in the region continue their operations; however, the safety of Dutch staff and citizens is a top priority. “For understandable reasons, the ministry never comments on the security measures being taken,” the statement said.

On April 13, the Austrian Foreign Ministry urged citizens to avoid traveling to Iran and to leave the country if they are currently there. Earlier, CBS News cited American officials stating that Iran might strike Israel on April 12.
