Armenian Foreign Ministry Addresses Times' Report on Migrants

There have been no negotiations between Armenia and the United Kingdom regarding the sending of illegal immigrants to Armenia. Ani Badalyan, spokesperson for the Armenian Foreign Ministry, stated this in an interview with Armenpress, responding to information published by the British Times, which claimed that the UK is negotiating with Armenia, Côte d'Ivoire, Costa Rica, and Botswana to replicate a scheme for deporting migrants to Rwanda.

“There have been no substantive or technical negotiations on the issue raised in the publication,” the spokesperson noted, adding that the Republic of Armenia and the United Kingdom have a broad agenda for political dialogue.

The information disseminated by the British newspaper was also refuted by Nelly Davtyan, Deputy Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs. “The Ministry of Internal Affairs, specifically the Migration and Citizenship Service, is not involved in such negotiations and never has been,” emphasized Nelly Davtyan, clarifying that there is no such issue on their agenda.
