Australia's Largest Airline Temporarily Suspends Flights Over Iran

Australian airline Qantas has temporarily suspended flights traversing Iranian airspace, altering its flight routes from Perth to London. This was reported by a representative of the airline to the SBS television channel. The information was conveyed by TASS.

“We are temporarily changing our flight routes from Perth to London due to the situation in certain parts of the Middle East,” he stated.

The Qantas representative added that the flight to the British capital, which previously passed through Iranian territory, will soon be conducted with a technical stop in Singapore.

Earlier, German airline Lufthansa announced a suspension of flights to Tehran and back until April 18. According to the airline, the decision was made in light of the “security situation” in the Middle East.

The Public Relations Department of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on April 1 that seven Iranian military advisors had been killed as a result of an Israeli airstrike on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital. Among the victims were two IRGC generals and five other officers. Israel has not officially commented on the responsibility for the incident.

Moreover, an official spokesperson for the Israeli army, Daniel Hagari, told CNN that the strike targeted not the consulate but an IRGC military facility.

On April 12, The Wall Street Journal reported that Iran's retaliatory strike could occur within the next 24-48 hours. According to the publication, the Jewish state is preparing for a direct attack from Iran from the north or south. However, the newspaper noted that Iran has not yet made a final decision.

Furthermore, Axios reported, citing its sources, that Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock that Iran would respond to the bombardment in a limited manner to avoid escalating tensions.
