The Assertion That IT Professionals Are Fleeing Armenia en Masse is Unfounded, Says Pashinyan
The assertion that IT professionals are leaving Armenia en masse is unfounded. This statement was made by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a session of the Armenian government, responding to opposition claims during yesterday's discussion on the 2023 state budget implementation report in the National Assembly.
Specifically, Arthur Khachatryan, a member of the 'Armenia' faction, cited the recent parliamentary hearings on the state of the IT sector in Armenia, claiming that of about 90,000 specialists who arrived in Armenia since February 2022, 75,000 have already left the country.
Pashinyan noted that compared to the beginning of 2024, there is a slight, but noticeable increase in IT specialists. Therefore, according to him, the statements about mass departures of IT professionals from Armenia do not correspond to reality.
It should be mentioned that according to the latest data from the Statistical Committee of Armenia, approximately 31,850 people were officially employed in the sector in January 2024, which is 4.4% higher than in January 2023. This figure applies to both local and foreign citizens. Additionally, while the private sector has seen an increase of around 4%, in the public sector, it has more than tripled.
