Zelensky Calls the Idea of Ceding Crimea and Donbas to Russia 'Very Simplistic'
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that the idea of peacefully resolving the conflict by allowing Russia to maintain control over Crimea and Donbas is "very simplistic." Sources have disclosed to The Washington Post that former U.S. President Donald Trump is considering a similar proposal.
“If Trump really has his approach to ending the war quickly, then I would be very happy to hear this idea. But we need strong arguments. We don’t need a fantastic idea; we need a real one. We are talking about human lives; we cannot joke and take risks,” Zelensky said in an interview with Bild.
Zelensky added that Ukrainian authorities have privately and publicly invited Donald Trump to Ukraine so that he can see the situation with his own eyes and draw certain conclusions. “I am definitely ready to meet him,” Zelensky remarked.
According to WP, Donald Trump has privately admitted that he could end the military conflict in Ukraine by compelling Ukrainian authorities to make territorial concessions, leaving Crimea and Donbas under Russian control. Trump's campaign has described this information as false.
