Video: The 12th Century Is Not One Where 50 Meters Decide Anything - Pashinyan
The residents of Kiran village will not be required to cross into Azerbaijani territory to reach Ijevan, regardless of any scenario regarding border demarcation. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a session in the National Assembly, responding to the question by Gegham Nazaryan regarding what border delimitation and demarcation will provide Armenia, particularly the four settlements in the region.
Pashinyan emphasized, “Even under the worst-case scenario, the resident of Voskepar won’t be affected because we may or may not need to create new infrastructure connecting Voskepar to Kiran.” He further explained, “This is not the 12th century where a 50-meter difference would be a decisive factor, because a spear can fall either 50 meters in one direction or another.”
Gegham Nazaryan raised a question about the need to ensure Armenia's security, asking, “If the border delimitation and other measures do not guarantee the security of the Republic of Armenia and prevent Azerbaijan from launching an attack, isn’t it better to start fighting from 2 kilometers away rather than 200 meters?”
Pashinyan stated that there is no issue in hitting targets from dozens of kilometers away with modern weaponry. He acknowledged that while there is a difference between 50 and 100 meters, it does not resolve the fundamental issues at hand. The Prime Minister promised that once there are developments regarding the border delimitation that have a probability of over 50-60%, he would visit the communities again and engage with the residents.
