The US is no longer prepared to defend all NATO allies, Borrell

The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, has stated that the United States is no longer willing to defend all NATO allies in all circumstances.

“NATO is at the heart of our collective security. But NATO must also recognize the changing world and adapt accordingly. In the past, it was assumed that strengthening European strategic responsibility for its own security would harm NATO and lead to decoupling from the US. Now, that risk of decoupling no longer arises from Europe, but stems from US policy,” he said at a conference in Brussels.
