Video: Part of Aircraft Engine Detaches During Flight in the U.S.
Reuters has reported that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the latest malfunction of a Boeing 737 passenger aircraft. During a flight from Denver International Airport, a piece of the engine casing of a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 detached and struck the wing.
"Flight 3695 of Southwest safely returned to Denver International Airport at 8:15 AM local time on Sunday and was towed to the gate," reporters added. Passengers on the flight were transferred to another aircraft, departing three hours behind schedule.
Southwest has sent the damaged aircraft for maintenance. According to the FAA, the affected Boeing was purchased in early 2017. In January 2024, a Boeing 737 MAX 9 was forced to make an emergency landing due to pressure issues, resulting in a piece of the aircraft’s casing detaching and a window popping out. Later, in March, a wheel from a Boeing 777 fell off during a flight and landed in a parking lot.
Due to the increasing frequency of technical malfunctions, Boeing's CEO Dave Calhoun, along with board chairman Larry Kellner, has decided to resign by the end of 2024. Furthermore, Stan Deal, the head of the division responsible for building commercial aircraft, has already left his position.
