Broken Arm and Injured Ear: Citizens Tortured at Masis Police Department

On March 28, 2024, three individuals were detained and subsequently arrested by the Masis division of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) (details are withheld for the purposes of the investigation). Lawyer Hrant Dadayan reported this on his Facebook page.

“Police officers tortured M.H. and H.E. in order to extract confessional statements regarding the actions of our client, A.E. As a result of the severe beating, a police officer broke M.H.'s arm, while another officer's blow injured H.E.'s ear. Following their release from detention, the aforementioned individuals sought medical attention and received appropriate care,” Dadayan wrote.

Reports of the torture have been submitted to the Director of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General, the President of the Investigative Committee, and the Human Rights Defender.

In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia under Article 450 of the Criminal Code. It is objectively expected that the law enforcement agencies will respond to this incident with the utmost severity and provide specific legal evaluations,” he stated.
