Another Armenian Church Put Up for Sale in Turkey
The Armenian St. Astvatsatsin Church located in the Sivas (Sebastia) province of Turkey has been put up for sale. It is noted that the church, abandoned after the Armenian Genocide of 1915, has become the property of a local individual named Hatice Akay, who has decided to sell it and approached a real estate agency.
The real estate agent, in a conversation with the Turkish news agency "DHA," stated that there are no obstacles to the sale of the church. "There is a deed of ownership, and there are no obstacles to the sale. The church is classified as a first-degree protected site and is under protection. As of today, we have put it up for sale, and we want 16 million lira (approximately 500,000 dollars) for it."
It should be noted that the church is located in the village of Geyyidun and was built in the 19th century. It was registered in 2012 as a cultural property requiring first-group protection. The interior and exterior walls of the Armenian church are adorned with carvings of crosses.
