Construction Timeline for Isakov-Arshakunyats Road Revealed
The only option for decongesting Yerevan is the construction of new bypass roads, as it is clear that we cannot widen existing roads or create other infrastructure. This was stated by Armen Harutyunyan, the director of the investment programs implementation office of the Yerevan Municipality, during a press briefing with journalists on April 5.
“One of those bypass roads is the Isakov-Arshakunyats road, for which the credit portfolio amounts to €60 million. This road will connect several administrative districts, specifically, Monte Melkonyan Street, which is used by residents from Ajapnyak, Malatia-Sebastia, and Davidashen to access Isakov Avenue. It will provide a logical continuation towards the Center or the Shengavit district, and then allow traffic to move towards Erebuni, enabling vehicles to bypass that section and immediately reach Arshakunyats Avenue,” he said.
Harutyunyan noted that the preliminary budget of the project expects completion in 18 months. “By the end of the year, we will finalize the construction competition and start construction at the beginning of 2025,” the director revealed.
He also mentioned that the Yerevan Municipality is discussing with the Asian Development Bank a project for a bypass highway connecting the Geghard road to the Tbilisi highway.
