Video: Serge Sargsyan Details How Many Times Pashinyan Was Warned About the Risk of War

Julya

In a conversation with journalists, the third President of Armenia, Serge Sargsyan, addressed recent remarks made by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, claiming that Sargsyan had not informed him about the potential threat of military operations. The former president listed how many times the current authorities had been warned about this matter.

“The first time was on April 17, when both he and our people were warned during my election as prime minister, when I stated that the negotiation process had stalled. It was clear that afterward I explained what the issue was. Initially, it seemed they did not notice, and later began cutting those words out of context, using them as evidence of a failure in negotiations. After the 44-day war, they started beating their chests, claiming that I had warned about military operations and the consequences, yet now they say they were not warned,” Sargsyan said.

“The second time, I personally warned him during our only meeting in the past 30 years, on April 22, when I told him that he had not learned any lessons from the events of March 1. Naturally, he twisted my words and claimed I was threatening our people. At that moment, it was already clear to me that the internal political situation in Armenia was very complicated, and with such a domestic situation, Armenia could not succeed in any military operations.”

“The next warning was given in plain words on May 1 when he was nominated for premier, and our faction's MPs stated that he could not govern, that he could not be the Supreme Commander, which would have tragic consequences, yet he failed to grasp that too. The following reminder was directly voiced in March 2020 when he was suppressing COVID in Vayots Dzor and literally said that Sargsyan and the Republican Party were scaring us with war. If we did not say anything, where did those words come from?”

“Regarding his statement that there was a person who communicated with both me and him; yes, there was such a person, but unfortunately, that person cannot testify now. He should simply remember what that person and his political team were saying from late 2019 to early 2020, claiming everything was fine and that they were behind us, assuring that everything would be normal. It turned out that they only stood behind to strike from the back,” Sargsyan added.

“Personally, when I held a press conference in the summer of 2020, I stated that military operations were literally approaching, and is that warning supposed to happen through some sort of lewdness?” Sargsyan concluded. He also stated, “The ruler of Armenia is a liar on a cosmic scale. He slandered me regarding some mundane letters I supposedly sent him, but my chief of staff immediately denied it and demanded they release those letters. It is clear that nothing happened because such letters were never sent.”
