Peskov on the Risks of Using Mir Cards
Russia is engaging in dialogue with other countries to minimize their risks associated with the use of Mir cards. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov. The information is provided by TASS.
In a conversation with journalists, the Kremlin representative described the restrictions on the use of Russian Mir cards in certain countries as a consequence of "outright pressure and threats from the United States." "Of course, countries are afraid of primary and secondary sanctions against their financial institutions," Peskov explained.
"We continue to have a dialogue with these countries to minimize such risks and develop cooperation algorithms that will allow us to fully mitigate these risks," emphasized the press secretary of the President of Russia.
It is noteworthy that the ArCa national payment system announced that it will cease servicing Mir cards starting from March 30. The servicing of these cards will continue through VTB Bank Armenia, which is not part of the ArCa system.
The Union of Banks of Armenia has informed Sputnik Armenia that Armenian banks have decided to stop servicing Mir plastic cards in light of the associated risks from sanctions. As of April 3, all banks in Kyrgyzstan have also ceased servicing Mir cards.
