Video: Actors of the Goy Theater Enter the Theater

After lengthy discussions, the actors of the Goy Theater reached an agreement and entered the theater through the entrance of the Sundukyan Theater. The actors were unable to enter because the Sundukyan Theater required them to fill out forms providing personal information (name, surname, position, registration address) to obtain special cards for entry.

According to Sarkis Arzumanyan, president of the management council of the Goy Theater, they entered their theater to understand whether there have been any changes after about a week of doors being closed. “Now we will tour our hall so that you can also record what our theater is like at this moment. We have not been able to enter here for about a week. The Goy Theater is currently occupied; we are in an occupied space. I am more than sure that this is a territorial dispute. The Sundukyan Theater claims it belongs to them, the Goy Theater claims it belongs to them, and the state also considers it its own. In the end, whose is it? This platform belongs to the audience,” Arzumanyan told reporters.

He stated that despite being state-owned, the government has made no improvements for the Goy Theater in 35 years. Arzumanyan noted that what exists was created by the hands of the actors. Edgar Anderasyan, responsible for the stage part of the Goy Theater and an actor, mentioned that almost all of the theater's property was acquired through personal means, with only 20-25 items provided by the state, 12 of which include chairs, an air conditioning system, and stairs.

It is noteworthy that the proposal to merge the Goy Theater with the Sundukyan Theater was presented by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, citing as a basis that the Goy Center had underperformed its annual financial plan by 3 million 436 thousand 990 drams in 2022. Additionally, invited directors have not staged performances, and the center has not collaborated with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, among other issues.
