Six Ministers Resign Following Raids on Peru's President's Home
Six ministers from the Peruvian government have resigned following raids on President Dina Boluarte's home and residence as part of an investigation into alleged illicit enrichment, Reuters reports.
On April 1, Peru's Interior Minister Victor Torres resigned, followed by the ministers of education and women's affairs. All three have expressed support for Mrs. Boluarte. The ministers referred to the presidential residence raids as "excessive" and "unjustified," the agency reports. President Boluarte's residence is located within the Government Palace.
Torres emphasized that he is leaving his position due to family and health issues. Two other government members did not provide reasons for their resignations.
Later that same day, President Boluarte dismissed three more ministers, including those of production, trade, and agriculture. Boluarte has appointed Walter Ortiz as the new Interior Minister, who previously headed the fight against organized crime.
