Armenia-EU-US Meeting Not Directed Against Any Third Party: Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson

The spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to questions from the Armenpress news agency. The Azerbaijani side has once again expressed its dissatisfaction regarding the EU's monitoring mission in Armenia.

In this regard, what do you have to say? - It is important to assess the security situation under which the EU mission has been deployed. This followed Azerbaijan's large-scale attack on the sovereign territory of Armenia in September 2022 and the occupation of Armenian sovereign territory. Today, around 208 square kilometers of the Republic of Armenia's sovereign territory remains under Azerbaijani occupation.

We highly appreciate the role of the EU monitoring mission in the context of deterring aspirations to use force in the region and strengthening stability along the Armenia-Azerbaijan state border. We also welcome the EU's decision made months ago to increase the number of personnel in the mission.

It is also appropriate to remind that on October 6, 2022, during a quadrilateral meeting in Prague, Azerbaijan itself welcomed the proposal made by the President of the EU Council and the President of France to deploy an EU monitoring mission not only in Armenia but also in Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, Azerbaijan later rejected this position.
