John Kirby Calls Moscow's Claims of Ukrainian Involvement in Crocus Attack 'Absurd'
The White House has labeled the Russian authorities' suggestions of Ukraine's involvement in the terrorist attack at Crocus as 'absurd' and 'nonsensical propaganda.' This opinion was expressed by John Kirby, the Strategic Communications Coordinator for the National Security Council, during a press briefing.
He stated that despite the Russian authorities' position, the involvement of ISIS militants is 'absolutely clear' to the United States, which has also claimed responsibility for the terrorism.
'It is evident that ISIS bears the sole responsibility for the horrific attack in Moscow. In fact, the U.S. attempted to help prevent this terrorist act, and the Kremlin knows that,' Reuters quoted Kirby's remarks.
According to him, the U.S. has repeatedly warned Russian authorities about the potential for extremist attacks during concerts and public events in Moscow. Specifically, Kirby mentioned that Washington sent such a warning to Russian security services on March 7 at 11:15 AM. He noted that this type of written warning is 'a normal procedure established through previous protocols.'
The White House spokesperson added that the United States has always warned and will continue to alert governments around the world, 'if they know that terrorist attacks are being planned—regardless of relations with those countries.'
He reiterated that Moscow's statements regarding a Ukrainian trace in the terrorism are perceived as 'propaganda,' and he also conveyed this metaphorically.
