Two Colleges in Dilijan Merge: The Reason Revealed
The government decided in its meeting today, March 28, to merge the "Dilijan State College" and the "Dilijan State Medical College" into a single entity, the "Dilijan Multidisciplinary State College." The decision was made based on the trend of decreasing student enrollment in Dilijan and the need for the optimal use of facilities assigned to the educational institutions.
The justification mentions that there are three state colleges operating in Dilijan: the "Dilijan State Art College," "Dilijan State College," and "Dilijan State Medical College." Currently, around 194 students are enrolled in the "Dilijan State College" located at Student Address 70, while 196 students are studying at the "Dilijan State Medical College" at Student Address 74.
Some of the spaces allocated to these colleges are not used for organizing educational processes, incurring additional financial costs for maintenance. The "Dilijan State Medical College" building requires renovation, and after its completion, the "Dilijan Multidisciplinary State College" will conduct its educational activities under conditions compliant with existing regulations.
Upon completion of the renovation works, the educational building at Student Address 70 in Dilijan is expected to be handed over to the State Property Management Committee. The optimization of the colleges is expected to increase the efficiency of the management of the educational institution, improve the building conditions, and introduce new specialties based on the demands of the local labor market while preserving the existing specialties. Furthermore, it will create the opportunity to conduct initial (vocational) and secondary professional educational programs within a single institution.
As a result of the merger, the building of the Dilijan State College will be transferred to the state property management authority, which will determine the fate of the property. As a rule, property transferred to the committee is auctioned and sold.
