Principal Nvard Hovsepyan of School No. 130 Dismissed; Criminal Proceedings Initiated

The principal of Yerevan's School No. 130, Nvard Hovsepyan, has been dismissed from her position. The information was confirmed in a conversation with Sputnik Armenia by Hayk Kostanyan, the spokesperson for the Mayor of Yerevan.

"Nvard Hovsepyan has submitted her resignation, which has been accepted," said Kostanyan.

It is noted that the Anti-Corruption Committee has informed Sputnik Armenia that two criminal proceedings related to incidents at the school have been initiated, which have been combined and are being investigated as one case. The pre-investigation is ongoing.

Additionally, it was mentioned that Nvard Hovsepyan had taken an unexpected leave of absence but has not returned to work.

In late February, the situation at the school was tense, as students were staging strikes while parents began a petition demanding the resignation of Principal Hovsepyan. Reports emerged that a corruption scandal had been uncovered within the school, alleging that the principal embezzled funds allocated for student group activities and pressured vice-principals to ensure that students and parents did not speak about missed classes.

Three vice-principals of the school submitted their resignation letters, refusing to comply with the principal's demands. Inspectors had started checks at the school, and an administrative case had been initiated.

Nvard Hovsepyan was appointed principal of School No. 130 on June 20, 2022.
