It Can Create a Dangerous Illusion in Armenia: Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry

The EU and the US will share responsibility for any "destabilizing" actions taken by Armenia. This statement was made by the spokesman of Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, Aykhan Hajizade, commenting on the upcoming meeting on April 5 in Brussels between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, where paths for trilateral cooperation to promote Armenia's development will be discussed.

Hajizade noted that Washington's and Brussels' openly pro-Armenian stance, against the backdrop of revanchist sentiments in Armenia, could create a dangerous illusion in Armenia that the EU and the US will support it in any potential provocations against Azerbaijan. In such a case, the EU and the US would share responsibility for any destabilizing actions taken by Armenia.

“At a time when a unique opportunity for achieving lasting peace, stability, and security is being created based on fundamental norms and principles of international law, we once again urge all parties to refrain from actions that could negatively affect peace efforts and provoke new waves of tension and instability in the region,” he stated.

On October 5, 2023, after a meeting in Granada, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen issued a joint statement. Ursula von der Leyen announced preparations for a joint EU-US initiative to support Armenia.
