Rumblings in the Judicial System: 'Hraparak'

'Hraparak' newspaper reports: The judicial system is preparing for the General Assembly of Judges scheduled for March 29. There is an impression within the system that the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Karen Andreasian, is trying to sabotage the meeting; certain judges have been instructed not to attend the assembly, which could prevent a quorum. According to these sources, Andreasian views Vasken Rshtuni as a rival and believes that his entry into the Supreme Judicial Council could alter the atmosphere to his disadvantage.

On the agenda for that day, it should be noted, are several issues, including the election of a new member for the Supreme Judicial Council; the only candidate is Judge Vasken Rshtuni. There is also the election of a candidate for the Constitutional Court, with the brother of the head of the Anti-Corruption Committee, Judge Davit Khachatryan, once again nominated; he lost by 50 votes to Davit Balayan in the last election, who was not selected by the parliament. The other candidate is Arsen Nikoghosyan, a judge from the Court of Appeals.

How the situation will unfold, and whether the head of the Supreme Judicial Council will successfully find enough supporting judges, or whether the meeting will take place, will become clear in a few days.
