Identity of Suspect in Robbery of US Citizen on Proshyan Street Revealed

The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has revealed the circumstances surrounding the robbery of a US citizen on Proshyan Street in Yerevan, which occurred on March 21, 2024.

On that day at 11:26 AM, a report was received stating that an unknown individual, using a weapon, had stolen a bag from a foreign passerby.

A criminal case was initiated, and during the examination of the crime scene, a "Stalker S17" type air gun was discovered and seized. The US citizen has been recognized as the victim.

Through the analysis of surveillance footage from the area surrounding the crime scene and other investigative actions, the identity of the individual who committed the theft has been established. He is a 25-year-old male.

Specifically, it was determined that on March 21, 2024, around 10:30 AM, he approached the foreign citizen from behind in Lovers' Park and struck him on the head with the air gun, stole the victim's bag, and fled the scene.

One of the citizens on the street, hearing the foreigner's shouts, ran after the young man. During the escape, he removed the US citizen's wallet from the bag, which contained cash and a bank card, and abandoned the bag. During his flight, the air gun he had secured at his waist fell to the ground.

Based on the gathered evidence, a request was submitted to the supervising prosecutor to initiate public criminal prosecution against the young man under the second part of Article 252 of the RA Criminal Code, which was approved.

A decision has been made to arrest the young man, and he has been declared wanted. The preliminary investigation continues. Necessary investigative and operational-search measures are being taken to locate him and present him to the prosecuting authority.
