After Surrendering Tavush Lands, the Gas Pipeline Will Also Come Under Azerbaijani Control
The Armenian government has not discussed the issue of relocating the main gas pipeline running through Tavush province with "Gazprom Armenia" CJSC. This was stated by Artashes Gabrielyan, the deputy CEO and chief engineer of "Gazprom Armenia", in response to a query from "Factinfo".
It should be noted that the main gas pipeline from Georgia to Armenia passes through the Voskepar road, which will also come under Azerbaijani control if the requirement to hand over four villages presented by Azerbaijan is fulfilled. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has already announced his position regarding the surrender of these territories.
"Factinfo" sent a written inquiry to "Gazprom Armenia" asking whether the issue of relocating the gas pipeline is being discussed, how many kilometers a new pipeline will need to be constructed, how long this would take, and what the cost would be for building the new pipeline along the new route. Moreover, whether the company considers it feasible to implement such an investment project at this time or if they expect financial support from the government.
In response, Deputy CEO A. Gabrielyan stated that such a question is not under discussion. "In response to your written inquiry, we inform you that the issue of relocating the main gas pipeline in the areas adjacent to the four villages you mentioned is not being discussed by "Gazprom Armenia" CJSC," Gabrielyan stated and added, "The scope of work required for new main gas pipelines can be determined based on the results of collecting baseline data, while the amount of funding required and the duration of the work can be determined based on the results of the development of project and budgetary documents."
