900 Individuals Not Incarcerated as Courts Implement Home Arrest, Minister Says

In Armenia, around 900 individuals have not been incarcerated in correctional facilities because courts have been able to implement home arrest. This was stated by the Minister of Justice Grigor Minasian during a meeting of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly.

“Today, we have nearly 900 probation beneficiaries who have not been incarcerated due to reforms that allow the courts to apply home arrest or administrative supervision. In the first few months, there were technical issues — false alerts were received, and there were instances where alerts did not reflect in our system. In the last quarter, we have noted that the system is working very well,” he said.

Since January 1, 2023, the courts have been able to implement home arrest and administrative supervision. The Ministry of Justice has acquired about 800 relevant devices from a Polish organization, including special ankle monitors.
