Shooting Incident in Vayots Dzor: Suspect Identified as Former Mayor of Yeghegnadzor
According to Shamshyan.com, an extraordinary incident occurred in the Vayots Dzor province on March 20. Around 20:40, operational information was received at the Vayots Dzor Regional Police Department and the Yeghegnadzor Police Station, indicating that shots had been fired in Yeghegnadzor.
Police arrived at the scene and discovered that during a dispute over domestic issues in front of the private residence of local resident Vardush A., 60-year-old Sirekan Babayan struck him in the chest, causing physical pain. Following the altercation, Babayan shouted profanities and fired two shots, one of which was discharged directly to the ground at Vardush A.'s feet, causing no harm. However, Vardush A. reported that he felt a sense of fear and anxiety as a result of these actions.
S. Babayan was arrested and taken to the Yeghegnadzor Police Station, where he claimed that he fired the shots from a registered “IZH” model firearm in order to put an end to a dog fight happening on Siranes Street in the specified area. Babayan presented this firearm to the police.
Notably, S. Babayan is a former mayor of Yeghegnadzor.
