Artificial Intelligence Becomes News Anchor in South Korea

Artificial intelligence has become a news anchor in South Korea, reported The Korea Herald. The AI now serves as the local news presenter for Jeju City. News broadcasts are being published on social media, and if the trial proves successful, federal channels may adopt this initiative.

The script that the virtual anchor reads to the audience is generated by a chatbot. According to the creators, the virtual news presenter is a cost-effective option, as its maintenance and text generation costs the channel only $450 per month.

“Hiring humans as news presenters is expensive, so we looked for an alternative and decided to turn to artificial intelligence,” said a spokesperson for the TV channel.
