Republicans Ready to Invite Netanyahu to Congress
The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, is considering inviting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to deliver a speech in Congress, as reported by CNN.
“(...) We can try to organize that,” Johnson's remarks are cited by the network. He emphasized that it is important to show “solidarity and support for Israel.”
“This morning, I had a long conversation with Prime Minister Netanyahu and reaffirmed to him the strong support of the House Republicans for Israel,” he added.
As CNN notes, inviting Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress would require the support of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who has previously been critical of Netanyahu and has called for new elections in Israel.
