We are working on reaching an agreement on a new document with Azerbaijan: Stoltenberg
Azerbaijan and NATO are working towards agreeing on a new framework document for cooperation, stated NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“We are working on reaching an agreement on a new framework document for cooperation between NATO and Azerbaijan. This document will be based on issues of collaboration, and the main aim here is joint efforts to adapt the Azerbaijani Armed Forces to NATO standards,” Stoltenberg said in an interview with Azerbaijan’s state “AzerTac” agency.
He added that both Azerbaijan and NATO place great importance on issues related to military education, which will contribute to the development of mutual activities between the parties.
“At the same time, we are considering other areas where we can develop our cooperation in the future. All of this will bring the Azerbaijani and NATO forces closer together, and I believe that this will be beneficial for both sides,” the Secretary General emphasized.
Stoltenberg noted that NATO is generally interested in developing future cooperation with countries in the South Caucasus. “We have several important partners in the Caucasus, thus this region is very important for NATO. NATO and the European Union are interested in further developing relationships with the countries of the South Caucasus. Of course, Georgia is in a different position on this issue. It has applied for NATO membership, and NATO has repeatedly stated that this will happen,” he stressed.
