Video: I regret that you liken our status to that of a betrayed woman, Mirzoyan to Kocharyan
Our primary goal remains to avoid becoming a collision point for various power centers; right now, there is a transformation in the world order, and against this backdrop, many statements are being made from the West. Specifically, in one of the recent reports, it was stated that they are ready to defend Armenia from threats coming from Russia. We are being led down the path of becoming a collision point; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must be guided by the interests of Armenian citizens. How does all this fit within the framework of the government’s declared ‘Peace Crossroads’?
This question was raised by Levon Kocharyan, a member of the ‘Armenia’ faction, during a meeting of the Foreign Relations Permanent Committee with Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
“The world order is not changing; rather, the world order that existed is now gone and has collapsed. The rules characteristic of the world order are not uniformly upheld. We are now living in a time when some believe that power produces right. It should be noted that this approach was somewhat accepted. In conditions where you see that your environment, the legal world order, does not exist, and everyone is guided by the idea that ‘Power produces right’ and your security mechanisms are not functioning, at that time you try to ensure that you are not annihilated. After the deployment of the EU mission, the risk of escalation has decreased. Nothing in our reality can guarantee 100%,” Mirzoyan responded.
Levon Kocharyan countered, stating that any cooperation is dangerous if it is done against someone, in this case against an ally. “It’s not about being absolutely Earth-oriented; it’s about the interests of Armenia. We have examples, unfortunately, where many countries have been caught in between all this and nothing good has come of it. It seems like a situation of a betrayed woman who responds by betraying, but nothing changes as a result. Do you assess the situation and understand the consequences?”
“I regret that you liken our status to that of a betrayed woman who reconciles with certain things. I assure you that Armenia is not involved in any program against anyone. The deepening of relations with the West has no aim to target Russia, nor is it meant to be used against neighbors,” the minister replied.
