A monument to Solomon Tehlirian has been unveiled in Marseille. This was reported by the office of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF).
The monument, dedicated to the Armenian avenger and participant of the "Nemesis" operation, Solomon Tehlirian, has been installed in Marseille, France.
On March 15, a ceremonial opening of the monument took place in Pasteur Square, located in the Armenian-populated Pomone district of Marseille. During the event, children from the Armenian community in France sang the song "Gini lits" while holding banners; one of them read, "Tehlirian Justice."
In 2017, one of the squares in Marseille was officially named after the Armenian avenger.
Solomon Tehlirian was born in 1897 in the Erzincan province of Western Armenia. As World War I began, he went to Armenia, where he participated in the volunteer movement under Andranik Ozanian. In 1915, he survived the genocide and on March 15, 1921, he assassinated Talaat Pasha, the main organizer of the Armenian Genocide and the Ottoman Minister of the Interior, in Berlin. On June 2 of the same year, Tehlirian was acquitted by a German court, after which he moved to Belgrade and later to the United States. Solomon Tehlirian passed away in San Francisco in 1960 at the age of 64 and was buried in the Armenian "Ararat" cemetery in Fresno.
