VIDEO: Azerbaijanis Destroy Memorial for Freedom Fighters of Getavan Village in Artsakh
In the entirely depopulated region of Artsakh, Azerbaijani vandals continue to destroy memorials and monuments dedicated to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for their homeland. This was reported by Haik Avanesyan, a cultural ombudsman and an expert on Azerbaijan, on his Facebook page.
“This time, the memorial dedicated to the freedom fighters from Getavan village who fell in the Artsakh liberation struggle in the Martakert region has fallen victim to Azerbaijan’s cultural genocide. The monument was unveiled on September 7, 2016. According to Article 4 of the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, any acts of vandalism, theft, looting, appropriation, antagonism, and retribution against cultural heritage are prohibited. The first protocol of the 1954 Hague Convention prohibits the destruction of cultural or spiritual values in occupied territories,” he wrote.
