Zakharova Comments on Situation with Border Guards at Zvartnots Airport

Russia has not received diplomatic notifications regarding the withdrawal of Russian border guards from Zvartnots Airport in Armenia, and the decision on this matter will be made as a result of interdepartmental review. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during a press briefing.

“We have indeed seen the comments of the Armenian leadership on this subject. As we understand, the relevant notification has been sent through interdepartmental channels; we have received nothing through diplomatic means,” she said in response to a question from RIA Novosti.

“We proceed from the fact that all decisions will be made as a result of interdepartmental processing, and at this preliminary stage, we would like to note that the aforementioned statement was made by the Armenian side against the backdrop of a series of unfriendly actions and statements from official Yerevan,” she added, noting that “it is unlikely that such an initiative would correspond to the security interests of Armenia and its citizens.”
