Petition at the Conservatory Against the Transfer of the University to the 'Academic City'
The Council of the Yerevan State Conservatory has announced on its Facebook page that a petition will be launched against the transfer of the university to the 'Academic City.' In addition to the option to sign in person, an electronic petition has also been initiated to allow those abroad to participate.
“Since discussions have not yet begun, I don’t take the idea of ‘Academic City’ seriously. It’s very vague, nothing is clear, and I can’t treat it with seriousness, but as a preventive measure, I am joining the petition,” said one of the faculty members in a conversation with reporters.
At the conservatory is also opera singer Haik Tigranyan, who emphasized the importance of having the Komitas Conservatory located in the city center, noting that it is an integral complex that includes the Opera Theater, the Philharmonic, the Sayat Nova School of Music, a Choreography College, and the Conservatory itself.
“Our faculty must be able to work here at this moment, as well as play in orchestras, sing in choirs, and so on. The best conservatories in the world are located in the centers of capitals. If musicians stand up, then the authorities will listen to us. The same thing happened back then at the Opera Theater, and it overcame those difficult days. Yesterday you all saw what was happening at the Ghazaros Saryan Opera Studio, how many musicians were gathered there, how many world-renowned figures were present. I am confident that everyone will hear our voice,” he added.
