Video: Municipality on Water Supply Works in Arabkir

Julya

Yesterday evening, around 21:00, a rupture occurred in the Arzni 2-Yerevan water pipeline, which supplies water to 25% of subscribers in the Arabkir and Kentron administrative districts. During the operational meeting of the Yerevan City Municipality, Mayor Tigran Avinyan was informed that the riverbed of the Hrazdan River had shifted due to soil layer collapses, making the access road to the pipeline impassable. The pipeline has been covered with water, making it impossible to carry out emergency restoration work.

At this moment, preparatory work has already begun for the emergency restoration efforts. Significant earthworks will need to be conducted for the relocation of the riverbed before the emergency restoration can begin. The mayor was informed that preliminary water cuts had occurred overnight, and throughout the day, regimes will be developed, and schedules will be announced until the water supply is restored.

Tigran Avinyan wanted to clarify whether this was the section that was outside of Yerevan and where construction debris was previously dumped. "Yes, it refers to the area adjacent to Kanakerravan. A year ago, a slope collapsed there, changing the riverbed. Now, a bit lower down, where 'Veolian' moved the pipe, it is not related to construction debris; it’s just a landslide area. Now, construction work needs to be done comprehensively; either the pipe must be reinstalled, or the riverbed must be changed. We will be there with the head of the Arabkir administrative district, and I will inform you about the process and results," reported Deputy Mayor Kamo Areyan.
