Vagharshak Hakobyan on Baku's Demands to 'Immediately Liberate' 4 Villages
During the negotiation process, we have witnessed numerous times when some of our partners have voiced assessments that are either incomplete, do not correspond to reality, or contain counterproductive elements. This was stated by ruling party MP Vagharshak Hakobyan in a conversation with reporters, addressing Azerbaijan's demand for the 'immediate liberation' of four villages in Tavush.
'That is why I ask to wait for a complete representation of the situation. It is indisputable that Armenia and Azerbaijan need to carry out delimitation and demarcation actions, and it is also indisputable that we are moving towards these actions and the signing of a peace treaty. The fact that we will be provoked during this process, that there are attempts to derive instability from us, is also not new. Various power centers may not be interested in Armenia settling its security issues, and this is also not news. We ask that we assess the situation cool-headedly rather than comment on some statements,' said Hakobyan.
In response to a question about whether the delimitation process might begin 'after handing over' the four villages, the MP stated: 'I believe that any process should be logical, and any process agreed upon by Armenia should stem from Armenia's interests. During the delimitation and demarcation process, not only in our case but also in the entire world, some areas advance while others regress; this is a natural process. It is another matter that we must do everything to ensure that Armenia's state interests are effectively represented in this process. I believe we have all the opportunities for that. I exclude any action behind the back of an Armenian citizen or any action that does not align with Armenia's interests.'
