Criminal Gangs Control Approximately 80% of Haiti's Capital
In Haiti, criminal gangs now control approximately 80% of the territory around the capital, Port-au-Prince. This is reported by Western media.
In response to the escalating violence, the United States has carried out an operation to evacuate some of its embassy staff and has increased the security of its diplomatic mission. The German ambassador has also left the country and relocated to neighboring Dominican Republic.
As a potential solution to restore order, the option of sending an international contingent is being considered, with the President of El Salvador expressing willingness to assist the Haitian authorities.
Tensions in Port-au-Prince have been rising over the past few days. Days ago, gangs launched attacks on prisons, resulting in the escape of over 4,000 inmates. Due to the chaos unfolding in the country, tens of thousands of people have fled their homes in recent days. Earlier, more than 300,000 people had already been displaced due to the increase in violence by the gangs.
