In the city of Birjand, Iran, the "8th Khavaran International" tournament took place, featuring a rapid chess competition. This was reported by the Armenian Chess Federation.

Grandmaster Hrayr Simonian claimed the 2nd place, earning 9 points out of a possible 11. FIDE Master Edgar Hayrapetyan secured the 3rd position with a score of 8.5 points.
