Russian Gymnasts Refuse to Compete in Baku
Representatives of the Russian artistic gymnastics team have decided not to participate in the qualifying competitions for the 2024 Olympic Games under a neutral status. Vasily Titov, president of the Russian Gymnastics Federation, informed RIA Novosti about this decision.
“We will not participate in the Olympic selection because none of our gymnasts wanted to obtain a neutral status. None of them applied to compete in the Baku tournament under that status, which is why no one has gone. This is a conscious choice made by our athletes and coaches,” Titov stated.
Recall that in July, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) announced that Russian athletes could participate in international competitions under a neutral status starting January 1, 2024. Later, the General Assembly of European Gymnastics expressed opposition to Russian athletes returning to official European competitions after January 1.
