Fatal Pedestrian Accident on the New 'North-South' Highway

Today, on March 9, a fatal pedestrian accident occurred in the Aragatsotn Province. According to shamshyan.com, at around 09:15, a 62-year-old citizen of the Republic of Georgia, Artyom M., was driving his 'Mercedes Viano' on the Yerevan-Gyumri highway at the 68 km mark in the Talin administrative area when he struck a pedestrian.

The victim, a 73-year-old Georgian A. residing temporarily in Yerevan, was thrown about 30 meters and ended up in the oncoming traffic lane on an unused concrete section of the road. The driver did not flee the scene, instead calling for an ambulance. The medical team from the Talin Medical Center, which arrived promptly, confirmed the death of the pedestrian.

The Talin Police Department informed the Armenian Investigative Committee's Aragatsotn Regional Investigative Department about the incident, and an investigative group led by Department Head Artak Petrosyan and Senior Investigator Rafik Ananyan arrived at the scene. Ananyan has initiated criminal proceedings regarding the incident.

Witnesses at the scene noted that the deceased worked for the company constructing the 'North-South' highway and was not alone at the time; he was accompanied by a friend. While the friend managed to avoid being hit, the deceased did not. The driver reportedly noticed the pedestrians, as evidenced by tire skid marks extending approximately 100 meters.

The driver underwent a sobriety test and was found to be sober.
