Dogs Held for Days Without Food and Water, Reports Say

Just nine days after its establishment, the KUMNI LLC operating in Gyumri participated in a dog sterilization tender announced by the municipality and won the contract. The municipality had proposed a preliminary budget of 13 million drams, and the organization won the bid, receiving 8 million 917 thousand drams from the municipality for the sterilization of 500 dogs—17834 drams per dog. This is reported by News.am.

Animal rights activists, following the organization’s employees, discovered a barn in the village of Jajur where dogs had been kept for days without food and water. These animals had been collected by KUMNI LLC from the streets of Gyumri for sterilization purposes. Animal rights defenders find it strange that the company won the tender at such a low price, asserting that it is impossible to carry out sterilizations for such a low cost, with a minimum of 25-30 thousand drams required.

After receiving the alarm, volunteer animal rights activist Mari Ter-Antonian filed a report about the crime to the prosecutor's office. The Investigative Committee has informed the media that a case has been opened under Article 307.1 of the Criminal Code. Despite having received a letter from the Investigative Committee last week, the Gyumri municipality claims they are unaware of the issue.
