Two Turkish Citizens Arrested for Crossing Armenian State Border with Local's Assistance

As a result of extensive investigative and operational measures conducted in cooperation with various divisions of the National Security Service of Armenia, the Investigative Committee of Armenia has announced the arrest of two citizens of the Republic of Turkey, identified as I.K. and E.Y., along with an Armenian citizen A.M. on February 20, 2024, at various addresses in Yerevan.

Investigative actions revealed that I.K. and E.Y. illegally crossed the state border of the Republic of Armenia using false documents at the Bagratashen checkpoint, in violation of Article 11 of the Law on State Border and the Government decision No. 702-N from May 12, 2011, which regulates the state border regime. A.M. allegedly assisted E.Y. in using the forged documents to cross the state border illegally.

The investigator has charged I.K. and E.Y. under the first part of Article 457 and Article 469 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, while A.M. faces charges under sections 46-457 and 46-469 of the same code. Motions have been submitted to the court to apply pre-trial detention against the accused.

Turkish citizens I.K. and E.Y. have been detained, while A.M. has been placed under house arrest and prohibited from leaving the country by court order. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
