VIDEO: Massive Rally in Brazil as Former President Waves Israeli Flag

Julya

A rally supporting former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro took place in Brazil, along the central Avenida Paulista in São Paulo. Thousands of people participated, according to reports from TASS, as cited by Veja magazine.

According to the magazine, the rally was initiated by Bolsonaro himself as a response to the judicial investigation against him regarding his involvement in the attempted coup on January 8, 2023. In a speech to his supporters, the former president denied such accusations.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva ruled out the possibility of pardoning those involved in the January 8 riots on January 9. He stated that declaring amnesty for participants in the protests would mean impunity, and that impunity could lead to new terrorist acts in the country.

Supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro clashed with police and stormed Brazilian government buildings (the parliament, the Federal Supreme Court, and the executive's workplace) on January 8, 2023, causing destruction there. They opposed the results of the October presidential elections in which Lula da Silva emerged victorious. The riots drew wide public attention and condemnation from foreign authorities.

During the protests, former President Jair Bolsonaro took to the streets, waving the Israeli flag in response to Lula da Silva's recent statements condemning the Gaza war.
