Uzbek Bank Tightens Rules for Russian Citizens

Uzbekistan's Yuli Bank has tightened the servicing of accounts for Russian citizens, requiring additional documents from customers. Specifically, the bank has asked clients arriving from Russia to provide identification numbers so they can continue to fully use their cards.

The technical support department of the bank clarified that this requirement was established by the guidance approved by the Central Bank of Uzbekistan on February 8, 2023. This document came into effect on February 9, 2023. Accordingly, both resident and non-resident individuals must open deposit accounts based on their personal identification numbers; previously, only a Russian citizen's foreign passport and a local SIM card were required.

The technical support department informed that identification numbers are not required solely for payments with cards for goods and services and for transfers between cards. Thus, without this identification number, customers will be unable, for instance, to transfer funds to their accounts.
