What is Causing the Breakdown of Garbage Trucks in Yerevan?
In Yerevan, garbage collection has significantly decreased over the past 2 days, with 25 fewer trucks operating. This was stated by Sasha Katvalyan, the director of the "Yerevan Waste Collection and Sanitation" organization, during a working session of the city’s municipality.
The main reason for the truck breakdowns has been the inaccessibility of the road to the Nubarashen landfill, he noted.
Currently, garbage collection in Yerevan is being carried out by 34 garbage trucks. It is planned to increase this number to 45 as a result of the complete overhaul of the trucks. Renovation works are taking place on the problematic section of the road to the Nubarashen landfill.
Mayor Tigran Avinyan suggested announcing a competition for about 8 trucks without financial resources to ensure that there are always a sufficient number of trucks available for urgent needs.
The head of the municipal economy department responded that there is currently a contract to acquire 6 trucks, and a request for additional 4 trucks has already been sent to adjust the procurement plan.
According to Katvalyan, the winning organization will supply Chinese "Howo" brand trucks. "We wish success to the 'Howo' trucks," said Avinyan.
