Russia Seeks Clarification from Yerevan: Russian Foreign Ministry

The Russian Foreign Ministry has responded to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement regarding the suspension of Armenia's membership in the CSTO.

Moscow maintains that Armenia continues to be a full-fledged member of the CSTO, with all rights and obligations stemming from that status. However, Russia expects clarification from Yerevan regarding Pashinyan's announcement, as stated by the Russian Foreign Ministry, according to RIA Novosti.

“In September 2022, at the request of the Armenian side, a mission from the CSTO secretariat and joint staff was promptly formed and sent to the border regions of Armenia. Based on the results, a decision was prepared by the CSTO Collective Security Council regarding the deployment of a monitoring mission in Armenia. It is not our fault, nor that of the other members of the organization, that this balanced decision was rejected by the Armenian authorities,” officials from the Ministry highlighted.

The Foreign Ministry also added that “in response, Armenia demonstratively chose to invite fake observers from the EU. The facts testify and leave no doubt about their zero effectiveness in the task.”
