City Hall Comments on Video of Attack on Activist Chakhoyan

The head of the Yerevan City Council's Civil Contract faction, Armen Galjyan, has addressed the video involving activist Arthur Chakhoyan, who reported on a manifestation of corruption by the Yerevan City Hall and was subsequently attacked during the broadcast.

Galjyan wrote: "The video that is actively circulating on Facebook shows that the replaced concrete slabs were removed from the city by the contractor, and this is merely the result of poorly formulated contractual terms. The contract stipulates that the replaced concrete slabs are considered construction waste, and the contractor must transport them 13 km away. This is, of course, problematic, as property that does not actually constitute waste is being removed from Yerevan by a private company as waste. Currently, the administration of the Kentron administrative district is organizing the transport of concrete slabs belonging to the Yerevan City Hall today and tomorrow, and corrections will be made to similar contracts in the future, recognizing construction waste only when they actually present items that are no longer usable.

At the same time, I want to emphasize that both the violence and attempts to falsely accuse the city authorities of corruption without making or after making the necessary corrections are reprehensible,” he wrote.
