Ayvazovsky's 'Moonlit Night' Canvas Sold

Yesterday, the canvas 'Moonlit Night' by Ivan Aivazovsky was sold at an auction house in Moscow. It fetched a price of 92 million rubles.

The biggest excitement among art connoisseurs came from the crown jewel of the collection and the main lot of the auction: the maritime scene of Constantinople against the backdrop of the 'Moonlit Night' towers. Painted in 1878, this artwork was sold for 92 million rubles, reports RIA Novosti, citing the Moscow auction holding.

The auction took place on February 18, and the organizers have dubbed it the Russian equivalent of Christie's & Sotheby's. Other artworks were also sold during the auction, including Ilya Repin's 'Patriarch Philaret' (29.5 million rubles) and Nikolai Roerich's 'Himalayas' (12 million rubles).
