Armenia Is Not an Ally of Russia on the Ukraine Issue: Nikol Pashinyan

I have long said that Armenia is not an ally of Russia on the Ukraine issue; this is our sincere position. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community in Munich and surrounding areas.

Regarding the developments around Ukraine, the Prime Minister noted that a complex situation has arisen. “Our position is also complicated. We accept the Alma-Ata declaration as a basis for recognizing our independence and territorial integrity, but it is not only for us. The Alma-Ata declaration was accepted by 13 republics of the Soviet Union, including Russia and Ukraine. Our understanding regarding Ukraine is that the Alma-Ata declaration is the basis for recognizing our independence and territorial integrity. By our logic, the same should apply in the case of Ukraine, because that document pertains to all of us. If we undermine that, then we are undermining everything,” he emphasized.

Pashinyan reiterated, “I have long said that Armenia is not an ally of Russia on the Ukraine issue, and this is our sincere position. I first mentioned this two years ago, and we deeply regret that we cannot influence this situation. The people of Ukraine are our friendly people,” he concluded.
